| Breaking News | | Hanshin's Kauts Hurt in Accident Wednesday, October 7th, 2009: First the bad news: Hanshin's Rodion Kauts has an undisclosed injury, an injury he sustained after being bit by a poisonous snake. Now the good news: the injury, which was thought to be more serious, will keep the Tigers reliever out of action for only about 2 weeks.
So far this year Kauts has delivered no saves. In 17 relief appearances he has 19 strikeouts in 20.2 innings with a 1.74 ERA and 1 win and 1 loss. | | Koga Crowned JCL Bat King Tuesday, October 6th, 2009: When the Central League regular season came to a close yesterday, Shiki Koga was all alone in the top spot in the batting race with a .341 average. The 26-year-old Hiroshima Carp third baseman smacked 215 hits in 630 at-bats and wrapped up the year with 56 doubles, 2 triples and 7 home runs. Koga appeared in 158 games and had 93 RBIs and 96 runs scored. | | Tigers Star Pitcher Wins Triple Crown Tuesday, October 6th, 2009: Few men in baseball history have won the pitching triple crown. Kazuhiko Tanaka of the Hanshin Tigers joined this elite company today when the season ended, officially making him the league leader in ERA, K's and wins.
Tanaka put up a 19-7 record, an ERA of 2.69 and 199 strikeouts this season. He started 34 times, walked 28 and held opposing clubs to a .217 average.
Tanaka is the odds-on favorite to capture the Outstanding Pitcher Award this year. | | | | |
