Juarez of Calgary Player of the
Week
The
National made it official today:
Effrain Juarez is the Player of the Week.
He really glistened on the diamond this week
with a .667 average to take home the honor. The
Calgary shortstop went 16-24, drove in 9 runs,
scored 6 times and hit no home runs.
For 2011
Juarez is hitting .348 with 6 home runs. His
stats include 45 RBIs and 40 runs scored.

Red-Hot Velásquez AL Player of the
Week
Pablo
Velásquez has the tools to stick in this league
for many years, but it might be a long time before
he has another week to compare with this one. The
24-year-old second baseman of the
Toronto Bloodhounds dominated the American over
the past seven days to win Player of the Week
honors.
Velásquez batted .650 with 13 hits in 20
at-bats, no home runs and 1 RBIs.
Velásquez is batting .423 with 3 home runs and
12 RBIs this season. Sunday,

Forces Bernardo Rodríguez Out
Philadelphia
fans will be disappointed to learn that
Bernardo Rodríguez developed a strained
hamstring muscle while running the bases in today's
game. After the doctor informed the
Philadelphia Red Devils manager that Rodríguez
was expected to miss 1-2 weeks, the manager told the
press that the rest of the team would have to step
up their play until the second baseman could return.
"You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's
always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.
In 2011
Rodríguez is batting .368 with 114 hits, 19 home
runs, 72 RBIs, 56 walks, .468 OBP and has scored 69
runs. He has played in 82 games.
Friday, July 8th, 2011:
Long Beach's Patrick Goes
Ballistic with 5 Hits
5
hits in 6 at-bats. It doesn't happen every day, and
when it does, it's exciting. Today
Robby Patrick of the
Long Beach Baracuda had a sensational 5-6 game
against
Philadelphia at Steeds Ballpark. He rifled base
hits all over the ballpark in his team's 10-9
shellacking of the Red Devils.
In the
postgame press conference he joked, "Heck, that's a
week's worth of hitting for me and I did it all in
one day. I guess I can take the rest of the week
off... Right, skipper?"
R. Patrick singled in the 1st, singled in the
3rd, singled in the 4th, struck out in the 7th,
singled in the 9th and hit an RBI single in the
10th.
Batting .326 to date, Patrick has no
home runs and 15 RBIs.
Tuesday, July 5th, 2011:
Taylor Hits in 20 Consecutive Games
The
Sea Dogs 24-year-old center fielder
Willie Taylor has been on a tear for several
weeks and his hitting streak is getting longer. The
streak is now at 20 games after he went 2-5 as
Portland got the best of
Queens 9-4 today at The Aquarium.
W. Taylor grounded out in the 1st, singled in
the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 6th
and grounded out in the 8th.
In 2011
Taylor is hitting .347 with 120 hits, 8 home
runs, 49 RBIs, .405 OBP and has scored 83 runs.
Tuesday, July 5th, 2011:
Superstar Sandoval Signs with
Queens
Though he's only a boy in
the minds of fans,
Manny Sandoval caused a flurry of activity by
hooking up with the
Sky Hawks earlier today. The press could barely
contain itself as team officials paraded the
24-year-old before the public this afternoon.
Terms of the deal were not officially divulged,
though the rumor mill puts the deal at an estimated
$2,220,000 over 1 year.
Monday, July 4th, 2011:
Marts to Miss 7-8 Weeks
The
Long Beach Baracuda will have to make do without
Chris Marts for 7-8 weeks. He suffered a
strained back muscle while throwing a pitch in the
game today against the
Chicago Dragons. His teammates, understandably,
were upset about losing the reliever. "That's a
tough break for him," one of them said. "But this
team is resilient. We will just fill in until he
gets back." Marts will miss 7-8 weeks.
So far
this season
Marts is 1-and-1 with no saves and a 7.41 ERA.
He has given up 42 hits in 34 innings with 24
strikeouts.
Monday, July
4th, 2011: Force at His
Best, Whips Warriors (NL)
Michael Force of the
Calgary Outlaws worked his mound magic on the
Stripling Warriors (NL). He blanked them 11-0 on
4 hits, registering 10 strikeouts and 4 walks.
"Making good pitches is the name of the game,
and I made some good ones in this one," said Force
after the game.
This year
Force has made no relief appearances with no
saves. In 89 innings, he has permitted 96 hits,
fanned 77 hitters and recorded 2 wins and 12 losses
with a 5.46 ERA.

Monday, July 4th, 2011:
Dodd Wins NL Best Player Award
Doug
Dodd showed the steely determination of a
veteran this past week as he rode a hot streak all
the way to National Player of the Week honors.
The 36-year-old
Sea Dogs right fielder compiled a .476 average
(10-21), 4 home runs and 9 RBIs.
In his
season totals
Dodd has 14 home runs and a .362 batting
average.
Monday, July
4th, 2011: AL Player of the
Week Named
Las
Vegas Gamblers third baseman
Freddie Lindstrom rose above the controversy
surrounding his soon-to-expire contract, thriving
under pressure last week and copping the Player of
the Week award in the American.
Lindstrom put
up a .583 batting average (14-24) with 1 home run, 5
RBIs and scored 5 times.
Lindstrom is hitting
.304 in 2011 with 5 home runs, 39 RBIs and 35 runs
scored. He has 82 hits in 270 at-bats and played in
73 games.

Gunslingers, Avent Wins
Daniel
Avent shut 'em down and shut 'em out, hurling
Anchorage past
Los Angeles 1-0 in a complete game victory.
He told BNN sportswriters in the postgame
interview, "This is a game of adjustments, and I
made some good ones in this game."
Avent held
the
Los Angeles Gunslingers without a run, tossing a
4-hitter while walking 0 and fanning 4.
So
far this year
Avent has 7 wins and 4 losses and a 3.53 ERA.
Saturday, July 2nd, 2011:
Monterey Hopeless Against
Hall
Tom
Hall really wowed everybody at the ballpark with
his 3-0 shutout victory over
Monterey today. The
Anchorage pitcher mystified the Mustangs in a
strong performance. He gave up 1 hit and totaled 1
walk and 10 strikeouts.
His manager said,
"Tom had them chasing a lot of pitches and turning
around and saying 'wow'... we were thinking the same
thing, too. It was something special to watch."
In 14 starts this year
Hall has posted 6 wins while suffering 8 losses.
He has pitched 111.2 innings, allowed 108 hits,
struck out 100 and has a 4.03 ERA.
Friday, July 1st, 2011:
Green Hurt, out 1-2 Weeks
Medical
officials from the
Calgary Outlaws reported that the club's
21-year-old left fielder,
Christopher Green, suffered back spasms in
yesterday's matchup against the
Chicago Dragons while throwing the ball. Green
is expected to miss 1-2 weeks of action.
This
season in 75 games
Green is batting .318 with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs
and has scored 45 times.
Friday, July
1st, 2011: Season May Be Over for
Barracuda Ross
The
season is ending on a bad note for
Ricky Ross, reliever for the
Long Beach Barracuda. It was announced today
that he will miss the rest of the season because of
injury. Ross was hurt against the
Fresno Flames while throwing a pitch. He
suffered a torn bicep muscle and will be out for at
least 8 months.
So far this season, in 11
relief appearances
Ross has compiled an ERA of 3.63. He has pitched
17.1 innings, struck out 14, walked 4 and registered
no saves.
Friday, July 1st, 2011:
Gamblers Matsumura to Miss Year
The
news is bad in
Las Vegas. The Gamblers have lost the services
of first baseman
Tamatsu Matsumura for the rest of the season due
to a torn back muscle . Matsumura was injured in a
recent game with the
Baltimore Orioles while running the bases and is
expected to miss 7 months.
This year
Matsumura is hitting .354 with 20 home runs.
Friday, July 1st, 2011:
Done Deal: Ratzlaff for
Moore
The
Barracuda and Blackbirds pulled the trigger on a
deal that will see 33-year old shortstop
Kel Ratzlaff head to
Orix in exchange for 31-year old first baseman
Joe Moore. A source close to
Long Beach officials said "The teams spent long
hours coming to the agreement and in the end, both
agreed the deal should help both clubs."
Thus
far in 2011 Ratzlaff is hitting .170 with no home
runs, 2 RBIs, 3 runs scored and has compiled a .170
OBP.
